Documentary on the Five broadcast in Cuban TV

Havana, Jun 10 (Prensa Latina) Cuban television has broadcast the documentary presented by the Island´s delegation to the Human Rights Commission in Geneva to denounce the situation of five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the United States.

The Round Table TV program broadcast the documentary, which was presented in Geneva in April to publicize the violation of the human rights of the five Cubans imprisoned in the United States since 1998 for fighting terrorism.

The documentary contains testimonies from the mothers, wives and children of Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez, known as the Cuban Five in international campaigns demanding their release.

After a six-month-long trial that the defense attorneys described as "fabricated and politicized", on June 8, 2001, the five Cubans were given sentences ranging from two life imprisonments to 15 years.

Elizabeth Palmeiro, Labañino´s wife, denounced the trauma on her three daughters for having grown up without the presence of their father, who is a prison in Beaumont, Texas.

"We have gone through very difficult moments and we have to be as optimistic as possible, eager to see each other once again despite the obstacles placed by the US government," said Antonio, one of Guerrero´s children.

He charged that US authorities have put the Five in punishment cells on many occasions, keeping them isolated without justification.

The documentary shows fragments of letters that the Cuban Five, accused of conspiracy and acting as foreign agents, have sent from their prisons.
