CUBA, February 19, 2009. A delegation from Mozambique headed by President Eduardo Mulebwe held talks with relatives of five Cubans serving harsh sentences in US prisons after providing authorities with information about terrorist activities being plotted against Cuba in southern Florida, reported Juventud Rebelde newspaper. “The people in Mozambique must follow Cuba's example during the war in Angola,” he said. Mirta Rodriguez, Magali Llort, Elizabeth Palmeiro and Olga Salanueva —relatives of the Cuban five— expressed their gratitude to the delegation for its solidarity and spoke of the need to break the wall of silence erected by the mainstream international media. The relatives also spoke about the Atlanta 11th Court of Appeals latest decision to order a new trial in Miami for three of the five, while maintaining sentences against Rene Gonzalez (15 years) and Gerardo Hernandez (double life sentence plus 15 years). “We are well aware that it will not be easy to win the freedom for our relatives; we must work hard to break through the media blockade. This struggle will continue till the end and that end will only come when the five return to their homeland,” said Olga, René González´s wife. The case of the Cuban Five is currently being fought by more than 350 committees in 111 countries worldwide. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
