CUBA, February 28, 2009. The South Africa-Cuba Friendship Organization FOCUS affirmed, in Johannesburg, its support of the international campaign for the freedom of the five Cuban Heroes unjustly incarcerated in the United States for fighting against terrorism. During the organization’s annual meeting participants unanimously adopted a motion to continue their struggle for the release of Fernando Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez, internationally known as the Cuban Five, PL news reported. FOCUS is carrying out a group of activities aimed at spreading the reality of the Cuban people and their achievements. FOCUS president Mannie Dipico said that his organization condemns the nearly-50-year US economic, commercial and financial blockade against Cuba. Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Angel Villa, thanked FOCUS for its support and friendship. The Cuban people’s struggle for the release of the Cuban Five, who are serving long and unfair sentences in US jails (from 15 years to life terms), is also backed by organizations and solidarity groups all over the world.
