South African Lawyers in Favor of Due Process for the Cuban Five

SOUTH AFRICA. March 4st 2009. The Annual General Assembly of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers of South African (NADEL) considered the necessity of due process in the trial of the Cuban Five antiterrorist that have been in prison in the U.S. for more than 10 years.

The Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Angel Villa, addressed NADEL AGM attended by more than a hundred lawyers on the Case of the Five, creating more awareness of it among the judiciary in this country. This special session was presided over the Deputy Chief Justice of South Africa.

NADEL is included among the South African institutions and individuals that have been pronouncing themselves in favor to correct the injustice that surrounds this case and in 2008, representatives from NADEL held a meeting with relatives of the Five during their visit to South Africa.

Nobel laureate Ms. Nadine Gordimer and Father Michel Lapsley, Chair of the South Africa-Cuba Friendship Society in Western Cape are included as very consistent personalities in the fight for the freedom of the Cuban Five. (Cubaminrex- Embacuba Sudáfrica)
