Communist Parties Demand Release of Cuban Heroes
Madrid, Sep 19 (Prensa Latina) International parties, represented at the 28th celebration of the Spanish Communist Party, demanded the release of the Five Cuban heroes held in US prisons.
At the initiative of the hosts and the Spanish solidarity with Cuba movement, the parties´ representatives signed a letter from world intellectuals addressed to the US Attorney General, demanding the release of these illegally detained Cuban men.
The demand letter was signed by representatives of the Communist Parties of Germany, Chile, Peru, Greece, as well as the Chilean Podemos Party, the Peruvian Communist Party; and Akel Party from Cyprus.
Other signatories included the Portuguese Communist Party, Progress and Socialism Party of Morocco; the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia, and the Communist Party of Spain.
This document, signed by thousands of prominent intellectuals including six Nobel Prize winners, will be sent to the US Attorney General, with a copy for Cuban Ambassador to Madrid Alberto Velasco.
The letter points out that nothing justifies keeping The Five in prison after the reversal of their convictions by the Atlanta Appellate Court.
The parties´ signatories proclaim that this arbitrary situation, so painful to The Five and their families, cannot go on, and they demand their immediate release.
