Cuban Five in US Prison Hell for Seven Years

Havana, Sep 12 (Prensa Latina) The five Cuban anti-terrorists imprisoned in the US have served as of today seven years of unfair and illegal confinement, which is furthermore illegal after last August 9 decision by the US Court of Appeals 11th Circuit in Atlanta to reverse their convictions.

Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez were arrested by the FBI on September 12, 1998, while gathering information about terrorist plots by counterrevolutionary organizations in Miami, Florida, with an aim to prevent the deaths of Cuban and even US citizens.

The Cuban Five, as they are known in ongoing international campaigns for their release, have arbitrarily served 17 months in solitary confinement without any justification, receiving illegal treatment according to US laws.

The judge in charge of the case had convicted them to harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to double life imprisonment.

Cuba condemns the Cuban Five´s seven years of unfair imprisonment, suffering authorities´ ruthless and cruel treatment, contrasting the magnificent treatment given to confessed Cuban-born terrorist Luis Posada Carriles.
