People
from diverse sectors of US society packed the Columbia Road Festival Center
in Washington’s Latin quarter for the premiere of the documentary Mission
Against Terror, on the unjust incarceration of the five Cubans in the United
States.
The documentary was directed by Irish filmmaker Bernie Dwyer, of Radio Habana
Cuba, and Roberto Ruiz, a Cuban television producer, as noted on the Juventud
Rebelde daily website.
The launch of this film is an important contribution to making known the truth
on Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González,
Tony Guerrero and René González, the five Cubans unjustly imprisoned
in the United States for penetrating Miami terrorist groups in order to discover
and warn their people of criminal acts against Cuba.
The activity was sponsored by the ANSWER coalition and the No War on Cuba
group in coordination with the National Free the Five Committee, headed by
US Gloria La Riva, AIN reports.
The guests included Albert Fox, president of the Alliance for a Responsible
Policy on Cuba; Ted Loza, the Hispanic representative of Councilor Jim Graham;
Leslie Salgado, president of the Howard county, Maryland Solidarity with Cuba
Committee; and other leaders and members of solidarity organizations with
the island.
Dagoberto Rodríguez, head of the Cuban Interests Section in Washington,
led a delegation from that mission.
Bernie Dwyer presented the documentary and afterwards answered many questions
from a visibly moved audience, interested in knowing more on an issue unknown
to many of them up to that point.
Of particular significance was an auction of five DVD’s of the documentary,
spontaneously organized at the proposal of a member of the audience, for an
equal number of participants.
According to the organizers, the money raised will be used for other activities
promoting the release of the Five.
