From Lebanese and Palestinian Graduates in Cuba
Mr. Jordi Raich
International Red Cross
Geneve
Dear Mr.Raich:
The League of Lebanese Graduates in the Cubans Institutes and Universities and the Palestinian Graduates in Cuban Institutes and Universities go to you, in order to convey our solidarity claim to obtain the freedom of the Five Cubans who suffered imprisonment in American jails since September 2008.
These Cubans worked in Miami, Florida, USA, in order to obtain information about terrorist actions that small Cuban counterrevolutionary groups based in that territory, planned and implemented against Cuba, financed by the CIA.
The double standard practiced by the American government in its so-called war against terrorism, did not allowed to recognize the work that these young people were for the benefit of their natives, but unlike any reaction expected, they violated their homes, handcuffed them, subjected them to imprisonment, physical and psychological torture and violated the provisions of the Fifth Amendment of the United States Constitution itself which states that "none… be deprived of liberty without due process of law" holding them for seventeen months without trial.
When they decided to carry out the process, it is done in Miami, Dade County the county where the so-called Cuban mafia rules, which is characterized by its aggressiveness against Cuba and the constant appeal to the American government from the members of the Mafia, to harden their actions against our people, especially concerning the brutal embargo.
These sons of the Cuban people were tried for acts that they did not perform, as conspiracy to commit espionage when they never gather any information related to the national security of the United States, conspiracy to commit murder, in which one of them is accused of being responsible for the downing of an aircraft of a counter-revolutionary organization called “Brothers to the Rescue” which violated Cuban airspace deliberately until, after repeated warnings, the Revolutionary Air Force, as defender of cuban national sovereignty, decided to tear it down.
On these facts, they were sentenced to penalties that we will take the lives of three of them to fulfill with the sanctions, with two life sentences and fifteen years to one of them, life imprisonment and eighteen years to another; life imprisonment and ten years and nineteen and fifteen years to the other two.
The wives of two of them, Adriana and Olga, have been denied visas to visit their husbands, because they accuse them of "terrorists".
Let us add, Mr. Aldahdah, that the United Nations Working Group of Arbitrary Detentions concluded that the process was arbitrary and contrary to article 14 of the International Convention on Civil and Political Rights, which the United States has signed.
We can not conclude without referring to our brothers Lebanese and Palestinians, hundreds suffering imprisonment in the israelites dungeons. Some of them as Yehyah Skaf and Samir Kantar arrived to the three decades of incarceration.
We further call for the release of Lebanese and Palestinian prisoners who suffer unjust prison for merely defending the sovereignty of their territories and their legitimate rights.
We request you to transfer to the International Red Cross our complaint and the visas to Olga and Adriana be granted to enable them to visit their husbands Gerardo Hernandez and Rene Gonzalez.
We request you to transfer to the International Red Cross our main demand: Free the Five, already!!!
