Health Minister recognized Cuba's medical aid to Panama against Covid
Panama, Feb 9. Cuba was the only nation that responded positively to Panama´s request for medical personnel to fight the Covid-19 pandemic, Luis Francisco Sucre, minister of Health, acknowledged to Parliament.
'The only embassy that at this time could help us was the Cuban one,' Sucre said to deputies and also explained that Panama´s government fell back on countless diplomatic representations in the country requesting aid and information, but most of them were facing the same Covid-19 pandemic situation.
Sucre detailed to legislators that in order to materialize the medical aid, both nations (Cuba and Panama) signed an international cooperation agreement, and he cleared out that 'such an agreement has not been so far made with any foreign doctor individually.'
The Health minister, alongside Erika Mouynes and Héctor Alexander, ministers of Foreign Relations and Economy and Finance, respectively, had to be present at the National Assembly so as to answer a 21-question questionnaire related to the health crisis management due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The key questions focused on the process to acquire the Covid-19 vaccines and on the implementation of logistics chain for immunization.
An in-depth explanation of scientific guides for negotiations with pharmaceutical companies, including vaccine costs and delivery dates, were given by the three ministers who were assisted by other senior officials and experts to answers the questions.
