50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution commemorated in Kenya

KENYA, December 15, 2008. An atmosphere of brotherhood and solidarity characterized the celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Triumph of the Revolution at the residence of the Ambassador of Cuba in Nairobi, H.E. Mr. Julio Cesar Gonzalez Marchante.

In his welcome remarks, Gonzalez Marchante thanked the friends of Cuba gathered in the activity for their support to the Revolution as well as to the work of the Embassy since its opening in 2002.

A nourished selection official from the local Foreign Ministry, the Latin American Diplomatic Corp and members of the Solidarity Movement, the UN agencies based in Nairobi, as well as the Cuban community in Kenya were among those who attended the occasion.

The Cuban diplomat also noted that throughout these five decades, our people have demonstrated the validity of a system that outstands mainly by its humanism and they have fought for a better world where justice prevails and the right of peoples to choose their own destiny and its path to development.

He further stressed that despite the genocidal blockade imposed by successive U.S. administrations, the Cubans have been able to make significant progress in the revolutionary transformations to construct a more just society, and also to share our achievements with Third World countries, putting at a high level the principles of solidarity and internationalism. He reiterated that the Cuban Five anti-terrorist fighters unjustly in U.S. prisons will return to the motherland, proud of the duty fulfilled and with the satisfaction of having received the support both internationally and from their entire people in the struggle for their liberation.

Many participants expressed their admiration and respect for the work of the Revolution and the legacy of its leader Fidel Castro, noting that both constitute an example for humanity.
