INDIA, January 20, 2009. This afternoon the Communist Party of India (CPI) carried out a public meeting in the capital on the occasion of the 50th year of the Cuban Revolution. The activity that began with the screening of the documentary “Challenge” of the Cuban filmmaker Roberto Chile had the presence of a important group of admirers as well as the main leaders of this important party of the Indian Left.
The meeting was addressed by the General Secretary A. B. Bardhan who recalled the efforts made by the Cuban people in their confrontation with the Yankee Imperialism. Bardhan also remembered the solidarity of the Cuban people with numerous countries of the Third World like Angola, where the blood of thousands of Cubans was spilled, and also with Venezuela, Bolivia, Pakistan, among others.
Also present in the meeting was the Cuban Ambassador to India, Miguel Angel Ramírez Ramos who appreciated the solidarity of the Indian people during this half century from January 1st, 1959 and in particular during the difficult years of the 1990s when Cuba was practically facing the United States alone and when the Blockade was strengthened with the objective of the destruction of the Revolution. The Cuban diplomat remembered and also appreciated the support that India has given to the cause of the Five Cuban Heroes unjustly imprisoned in the American jails because of their struggle against terrorism.
The Communist Party of India has indicated its base organizations to carry out similar meetings to show the support to Cuba at the completion of the first fifty years of the victory of the Revolution.
