Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica sends message on the occasion of the 52nd Anniversary of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution.

JAMAICA, January 19, 2011.- The Association of Cuban Residents in Jamaica issued this Saturday January 1, 2011, a statement on the occasion of the triumph of the Cuban Revolution, describing this historical event as a decisive turnaround in the history of Latin America and the world.

In the message sent by the Association, it is stressed that with the entrance of the Rebel Army into the City of Santiago de Cuba, led by Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, the Cuban people was, for the first time in its history, owner of its own destiny and would set about a heroic path, full of sacrifices and perils in search of justice and economic and social progress. Likewise, reference is made to the hostility of the U.S. government against the blooming revolution since the very beginning, including the Bay of Pigs mercenary invasion-defeated within less than 72 hours- the numerous terrorist acts in which thousands of Cubans lost their lives, and the assassination attempts against Cuban leaders.

The text also highlights that, despite the aggressions, the Cuban Revolution strengthened and achieved unprecedented advances in education, health, sports, culture, employment levels, and the population’s living standards: Cuba also contributed with its supportive assistance to the social and economic development of countless Third World countries and made a valuable contribution to the struggles against colonialism, imperialism, and racism resulting in important changes in the correlation of forces worldwide. The text states that never before in history, a country of comparable dimensions and resources has helped to create a better world.

It is also recalled that Cuba has been able to overcome the impact caused by the collapse of the socialist camp amidst an increasingly stiff U.S.  blockade and it is stressed that the secret of the success has lied in the support of the overwhelming majority of the Cuban people to its political and social system, under the historic leadership of the Revolution. The message mentions that this 52 anniversary takes place in the context of adjustments which are being discussed by the entire Cuban people in the search for new solutions within the political and social system it has chosen, despite the imperialist aggressions.

The message of the Association ends with a demand to the U.S. government to end the criminal economic and commercial blockade, remove the unjust inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of so-called terrorist states, put an end to the illegal occupation of the territory where the Guantanamo Naval Base is located. Likewise, it also urges President Obama, within his presidential prerogatives and as an act of elemental justice, to immediately and unconditionally release the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly incarcerated in U.S. jails.
