Family Denounces Delaying Strategy in Case of Cuban Five
CUBA, March 29, 2007.- The families of the Cuban Five, seized illegally in the United States, denounced once again the delaying strategies used by the American authorities to obstruct justice.
The statement came during a meeting with jurists and journalists from Granma province. In the meeting they talked about the world campaign for the freedom of Rene Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Antonio Guerrero, Ramon Labañino and Fernando Gonzalez, who have been imprisoned for antiterrorist actions since 1998.
Magali Llort, Fernando’s mother; and Elizabeth Palmeiro, Ramon’s wife, both said that these strategies were being promoted by the attorney’s office on behalf of US government. They noted the strategies are aimed at making the Five suffer as much as possible, weakening their moral strength and inhibiting world solidarity with them.
Magali pointed out that, on the contrary, during her last visit to jail she could sense her son was in a very good mood and convinced of their victory.
She remarked that the pressure of international public opinion, especially in the US, will be decisive for the trial.
Elizabeth and Magali said that Fernando and Ramon had sent warm greetings to the people of Granma by phone.
Today they will meet national and foreign students at the University of Bayamo, and tomorrow they will do the same in the municipality of Manzanillo.
