CUBA, September 12, 2009. Young Cubans gathered on Saturday in front of the US Interests Section in Havana to demand the release of five Cuban antiterrorist who, as of today, have been unjustly held for 11 years in US jails.

While a band played the National Anthem, Cuban flags were raised on the poles that stand tall in front of the US Interest Section on the Havana Malecon. The demonstration is being broadcast live on Cuban TV and counts with the participation of several renowned Cuban artists and musicians.

Relatives of Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, Antonio Guerrero and René González —internationally known as the Cuban Five— joined the victims of terrorist actions against Cuba and young people from Havana to demand the immediate release of the Five.

Among the artists participating are Kcho, Ernesto Rancaño, Eduardo Abela, Vicente Bonachea, Javier Guerra, Alicia Leal, Juan Moreira, Zayda del Río, and José Omar Torres.

Among the musicians playing are Laritza Bacallao, Raquel Hernández, Manuel Argudín, Augusto Blanca, Rochy Ameneiros, David Blanco, the Cuban National Choir, El Goyo, Moneda Dura. The La Colmenita theatre group will also perform.

Artist Alexis Leyva (Kcho) spoke early Saturday morning at the demonstration and demanded that US President Barak Obama procure the immediate release of the Cuban Five.

“The Cuban people and people all over the world are demanding that you release our five brothers because they are heroes, not villains,” said Kcho. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
