Cuba Denounces Injustice against the Cuban Five before the UN Human Rights Council.

CUBA, March 12th, 2011.- Cuban ambassador to the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Rodolfo Reyes Rodriguez, read a message sent by the Cuban Five on Thursday.

The message condemns the US Government’s hypocritical and manipulated response to a verdict by the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention, which decided that the arrest and conviction of the five antiterrorists was arbitrary.

Reyes explained that the delegation decided to read the message of the Cuban Five for its significance to the Cuban people and for all those who fight for justice and truth around the world. The Cuban diplomat pointed out that Gerardo, Antonio, Rene, Fernando and Ramon, were arbitrarily incarcerated as stated by the UNHRC Working Group in its Opinion 19/2005. He also expressed Cuba’s concerns regarding the present threats to humanity, which had never been so serious. The message also states that the peoples’ right to peace is threatened by some world powers which intimidate them with the use of military force and nuclear weapons capable of destroying life on the Earth.
