New Free the Five Committee Created in Portugal

CUBA, July 8, 2009.  A new committee for the release of the Cuban Five was created in Portugal, in response to the decision of the US Supreme Court of not reviewing the case of these five antiterrorist fighters unjustly incarcerated in the US.

A public announcement addressed to local governments and assemblies was issued in order to spread the creation of Committee of the Almada-Seixal Municipalities, the text of which rejects the measure adopted by the Supreme Court on June 15th.

This association, the fourth of its kind in Portugal, gathers people from different sectors in both municipalities and has a coordinator for each of them.

The main objective of founders is to multiply the struggle in favor of these five men, imprisoned since 1998, and to promote the activities of the international movement in solidarity with The Five, by way of debates, the spreading of and information on the case in alternative media outlets, among other actions.

Gerardo Hernández, René González, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González and Antonio Guerrero have served almost 11 years in US jails, after being given in Miami harsh sentences ranging from 15 years to two life imprisonments.

They infiltrated Florida-based anti-Cuban organizations, in order to warn the Cuban people of their terrorist actions. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
