Cuba grieves for death of US prisoner’s mother
CUBA, November 3, 2009. Groups in solidarity with the five Cuban antiterrorists incarcerated in the United States have expressed their grief for the death of Carmen Nordelo, the mother of one of these patriots, Gerardo Hernandez.
A communiqué from the Uruguayan Free the Five Committee expresses its condolences “to Gerardo, his relatives and the Cuban people” on behalf of all those who struggle in that South American nation for the release of these five heroes, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
Hernandez is serving an unjust sentence of two life imprisonments plus 15 years imposed in a biased trial held in Miami, den of anti-Cuban mafia groups.
He and his four companions were warning Cuba about the criminal actions of these groups, as a result of which thousands of people have died or were wounded or maimed over the last five decades.
In spite of being ill, Carmen actively participated in the campaign to reveal the truth on the case of The Five to the world and to promote the demand for a fair trial for those who prevented the carrying out of terrorist acts against Cuba.
On the other hand in El Cairo, the Egyptian capital, members of the permanent secretariat of the Organization in Solidarity with Afro-Asian Peoples have urged US President Barack Obama to release these antiterrorists from prison immediately.
In a letter addressed to the US head of state, they expressed their concern for the imprisonment of these men, which they described as a violation of US laws and of high political motivation, the Granma newspaper reports. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
