Cuban 5 Release Requested in Bolivia

BOLIVIA, May 24, 2009. Cuban residents in Bolivia on Sunday requested the release of five fellow citizens imprisoned in the United States since 1998 for defending their country from terrorist acts.

Their support was made public at a children's painting and literature contest being held in La Paz to honor the Five antiterrorist fighters Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Rene Gonzalez, Antonio Guerrero and Fernando Gonzalez,

The Jose Marti Association of Cubans in Bolivia chair Yana Fernandez said requesting the release of the Cuban Five is one the group top priorities.

The association has staged marches and protests in front of US embassy in La Paz to demand the Cuban Five release and respect for their human rights.

Cuban ambassador to Bolivia, Rafael Dausa, also thanked Cuban residents in Bolivia for collecting hurricane relief aid after three hurricanes devastated the island nation in 2008. (Cubaminrex- PL)
