Chileans Urge Obama to Release the Cuban Five
CUBA, May 12, 2010. The Chile-Cuba Solidarity Movement urged US President Barack Obama to end the unjust imprisonment five Cuban antiterrorists have suffered for more than 11 years in the U.S.
The Chilean group made a public statement to join the voices around the world that claim for the Cuban Five freedom and to reaffirm the decision to continue the battle to secure their release, reported Prensa Latina news agency.
Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino and Rene Gonzalez are political prisoners because they were monitoring extremist groups based in Miami, which for nearly five decades, and with impunity, have organized terrorist actions against the Cuban people.
After outlining the many injustices against the five Cuban brothers, the group solidarity rejected the brutal US economic war against Cuba, as well as the gross slander and smear campaigns the U.S. and its European allies are carrying out.
They also recalled that U.S. imperialism encourages and promotes terrorism in its worst forms and manifestations, by financing or arming paramilitary groups, whose sole purpose is to destabilize those governments opposed to the U.S. interests.
