Peruvian Parliament Urges President Ollanta Humala to Support Cause of the Cuban Five.

HAVANA,  September 21, 2011.- Peruvian parliamentarians with the ruling Gana Peru bloc urged President Ollanta Humala to join the cause against Washington’s economic blockade of Cuba and for the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

Javier Diez Canseco, of the abovementioned group, told Prensa Latina news agency that the petition, included in a motion presented to the Peruvian leader, has the support of legislators of other political groups.

The text urges Humala to express his rejection of the blockade against Cuba during his upcoming address at the United Nations General Assembly.

It also encourages the Peruvian head of state to support the cause of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez —internationally known as the Cuban Five— who were arrested and given harsh and unjust sentences for monitoring anti-Cuba extreme right-wing groups in South Florida that were planning and carrying out terrorist actions against the Caribbean nation.
