Peruvians Urge UN Secretary General to Mediate in Case of Cuban Five.
CUBA, February 15th, 2011.- The Peruvian Committee of Solidarity with Cuba and the Parliamentary Peru-Cuba Solidarity League each have sent a letter Tuesday to UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon prior to his scheduled visit to Peru.
The letters request mediation in the case of the Five Cuban antiterrorist fighters incarcerated in the US since 1998, who were sentenced to harsh prison terms for monitoring the activities of anti-Cuba terrorist groups based out of Florida.
The signatories recalled that these men have fallen victim to a long lasting policy of hatred embodied by the US blockade imposed on Cuba for almost 50 years, a policy that has been repeatedly condemned at the general Assembly of United Nations.
The Parliamentary League of solidarity with Cuba is made up of law makers representing the whole political spectrum of Peruvian society. (Cubamnirex-RHC)
