Evo Morales to ALBA, Americas Summits
BOLIVIA, April 15, 2009. Bolivian President Evo Morales will attend the AlBA Summit in Venezuela opening Thursday and the Americas Summit to run from April 17-19 in Trinidad and Tobago.
Presidential Spokesman Ivan Canelas says the president will attend the Summits at the cabinet's request and after overcoming a complex domestic political situation.
Morales led from last Thursday 3,000 people in a hunger strike that urged radical opposition forces in Congress to pass an election bill to run general elections.
The law was finally sanctioned on Tuesday.
Canelas said Morales will meet in Caracas with peers from member countries of the Bolivarian Alternative for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA).
At the Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, he is to meet with top government officials of Venezuela, Ecuador and Brazil, and perhaps the US.
Morales said he would submit at both forums a proposal urging to end the US economic, commercial and financial blockade forced on Cuba since 1962. (Cubaminrex- PL)
