The Bolivarian Alternative for Our Americas will Continue to Grow

CUBA, June 24, 2009. Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega said that the Bolivarian Alternative for Our Americas (ALBA) will continue to grow in favor of Latin American and Caribbean integration.

Daniel Ortega gave his statements during a ceremony held on Tuesday in the Nicaraguan capital Managua to mark the 73 anniversary of the birthday of revolutionary and founder of Nicaragua's Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN) Carlos Fonseca.

The Nicaraguan leader referred to the upcoming joining of the regional integration mechanism by Ecuador, Saint Vincent-Grenadines and Antigua-Barbuda during the ALBA Summit underway in the Venezuelan locality of Maracay, Venezuelan media reported.

“We will be in Bolivar's homeland to join other sister nations like Ecuador, that will join the ALBA, as well as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Antigua and Barbuda, “ said Ortega, who recalled that the regional mechanism was created as an integration initiative by Cuba and Venezuela, which also includes Bolivia, Nicaragua, Honduras and Dominica.

President Ortega said that the Summit coincides with 188 anniversary of the historic Battle of Carabobo, which gave Venezuela its independence from Spanish colonial rule on June 24, 1821. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
