A delegation of the Cuban Women Federation visits Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES, February 20th , 2009. An important delegation of the Women Federation of Cuba, headed by Dora Carcaño, also member of the Executive Committee of the International Democratic Women Federation, visited the country for three days. During their visit several activities were organized by the Primer Minister Gonsalves, the Feminine Branch of the United Unity Labor Party and the Minister in charge of Gender Affairs, Michael Browne. The official lunch offered by the SVG Government was organized in the official residence of the Primer Minister.

During the three-day visit, the Cuban delegates had several meetings with women from different women sectors of the society, which allowed them to have ample interchanges about the work of the Cuban Women Federation, the Cuban Revolution and the role of women in society. At the same time, they were able to get ample information about the work of women´s organizations in Saint Vincent.

During their stay, the film “Portrait of Teresa” was showed in the rural community of Georgetown with the presence of the Primer Minister Dr Raphl Gonsalves, his wife and leader of the feminine branch of the ULP Party, and also women from that community. Later on the film was shown in Kingstown. In both occasion the films was followed by a very vivid discussion about the validity of the film, even today after 30 years of being made, and the fact that the problems of Teresa before, is still the problem of millions of Teresas in many countries of the Caribbean and the world.
