Raúl to attend President Correa’s inauguration today

Met last night with Evo Morales

ECUADOR, August 11, 2009. Cuban President Raúl Castro Ruz arrived in this city on Sunday morning to attend the inauguration ceremony for President Rafael Correa Delgado, reelected at the beginning of last April.

The official inauguration ceremony is scheduled for Monday morning at the National Assembly, in the presence of the members of the legislative branch, the highest authority in the country, and invited presidents and delegations. It precedes the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) Summit, at which Ecuador will assume the rotating presidency of the organization. Other members of the Cuban delegation include Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, minister of foreign affairs, and Eusebio Leal Spengler, Havana city historian.

Meeting with Evo Morales

Raúl and Bolivian president Evo Morales Aima had a fruitful meeting last night. The fraternal conversation covered matters of bilateral interest. It was the opportune moment to share experiences about how both countries are confronting current complex challenges and to reaffirm a will to extend cooperation.
The presidents were in agreement on the need to continue strengthening the unity of Latin American and Caribbean countries, such as consolidating and increasing achievements on the multilateral plane.
Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez and Dr. Walter San Miguel, Bolivian defense minister, also took part in the meeting.

ARRIVAL IN ECUADOR

Raúl arrived at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre International Airport at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, where he was received at the foot of the aircraft by Lautaro Pozo, Ecuadorian deputy minister of foreign affairs.
He was received on Higher Military School, and a band played the national anthems of both countries.
