PORTUGAL, November 30, 2009.- The 19th Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Governments, which is being attended by official delegations from 22 member states, is in session until Tuesday at the Cascais Miragem Hotel in Estoril. Under the motto "Innovation and knowledge", Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates opened the meeting on Sunday, when he also urged more clear commitments to boost environmental policies and sustainable economy for all. The international economic crisis and the potential solutions for it will be at the center of the discussions; as well as better ways to direct cooperation on innovative approaches towards reinforcing competitiveness in Latin America. In addition, a final declaration, whose main commitment is to give priority to innovative approaches in line with the development strategies of individual countries, will be adopted. At a previous meeting, foreign ministers from the nineteen countries attending the meeting, namely Latin American countries, Spain, Portugal and Andorra, discussed the agenda and the documents for the summit which are to be approved by the Ibero-American governments.
