VENEZUELA, December 2, 2009.- Three other doctors of the Barrio Adentro Mission in Venezuela have been awarded this outstanding distinction. At a brief ceremony held at the Ernesto Che Guevara Comprehensive Community Health Center (ASIC) in El Terminal, Venezuela, attended by a few of his co-workers from the Los Teques community, the 30-year-old doctor thanked all those who helped him, especially his wife Isairis González, working in Venezuela as a physiotherapist. “It is not just my job; this is for all those who helped me here. I thank them a lot,” said Mendieta who has been serving as a doctor in Venezuela for close to three years. Dr. Marcel Deniel Mendieta Pedroso is the fourth doctor from the Barrio Adentro Mission to have been awarded this prestigious medal. The other three who have been granted the award are Dr. Fausto Despaigne Massón and Dr. Ayled María Ferrer Fernández, both serving in the Metropolitan District in Caracas; and the coordinator of the Atunes ASIC project, Dr. Viriel Pérez Hernández. In Venezuela, nearly 16,000 young people have joined the social missions and are already working hard to forge a better world under one guiding and revolutionary principle: solidarity.
