CUBA, January 20, 2009. Solidarity-with-Cuba groups from Jamaica sent on Tuesday a private charter to the archipelago, loaded with help for the victims of the hurricanes that hit it in September. The donation of clothes, shoes, and canned food, among other products, was the result of the work of the Friendship Association with the cooperation of local entrepreneurs, professionals graduated in Cuba, friends, and Jamaican residents. These donors wish to contribute to the process of recovery underway in Cuba, after the damage caused by hurricanes Gustav, Ike and Paloma, valued at some 10 million dollars –equivalent to one fifth of the archipelago’s Gross Domestic Product. Freight charges were financed by the Association, the Cuban Foreign Ministry’s Web site reports. (Cubaminrex- ACN) |
