CUBA, January 22, 2009. The Speaker of Mexico’s Senate, Gustavo Madero was received here, today, by Cuban deputy Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez in this capital.

Madero is paying an official visit to the Caribbean archipelago, heading a delegation made up of senators of the main political parties represented at the Mexican senate.

The Cuban official expressed his satisfaction for the new stage of bilateral relations between the two countries and recalled the Mexico´s solidarity towards the Cuban independence forefathers and the leaders of the Cuban Revolution.

Bruno Rodriguez thanked the Mexican Senate for its solidarity with Cuba, particularly in regards to the normalization of the bilateral relations; against the US blockade of Cuba, and for the demand of a fair trial for the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly imprisoned in US jails for over ten years now.

He added that future joint events will have a profound impact on the cultural and education relations and assured that the visitor will carry out a tight working agenda, which will enable both parties to explore their potential.

Meanwhile Madero thanked the Cuban part for the warm welcome and underlined that Cuba and Mexico have a long intertwined history.

He underscored that this visit will be a step further into the strengthening of common bonds.

Madero reiterated his firm condemnation of the US blockade, and affirmed that this is a historical moment for bilateral relations; he said that the world´s current problems demand a joint commitment.

The Mexican delegation will be in Cuba till next Saturday, and they will meet with Cuba’s parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, Havana City’s Historian Eusebio Leal, and other officials. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
