Parents of Surinamese students in Cuba support the Cuban people demanding the end of American blockade

SURINAME, January 8, 2009. We, parents in Suriname, a small country in South America, support anyone and all efforts which are undertaken to bring relief to the Cuban people. The same goes for the actions which many countries in the world take to bring an end to the blockade which the United States of America has been conducting against Cuba for decades.

Because this blockade is in shrill contrast with the millennium goals which has been adopted in the United Nations and whereby all member states have promised to realize the goals by the year 2015; goals such as ‘to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger’ and ‘to work towards global partnership for development’.

We as people, parents of Surinamese students in Cuba, assume that the new President of America, the human being Barack Obama, will listen and make the right decisions to support a people that have been provoked for so long, and to end the unjust blockade.

With this short statement, on behalf of parents of children studying in Cuba want to express solidarity with Cuba and the Cuban people in there sincere fight for a humane existence.

On behalf of the parents of students in Cuba,
Gloria Christopher (Coordinator)
