Alarcón Assesses Meeting with Guatemalan President as Very Positive

CUBA, February 16, 2009. Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcón assessed his meeting on Monday with Guatemalan President Alvaro Colom, held in Havana’s Hotel Nacional, as very valuable.
The two personalities agreed that Latin America is living a time of change.
In his statements to ACN, the Cuban leader explained that the Guatemalan head of state is very interested in developing and strengthening relations with Cuba. |
After recalling that they have known each other since before Colom was elected President, Alarcón said he was very happy to have him in Cuba after his electoral victory, and described their meeting as very friendly and cordial.
The Guatemalan head of state arrived in Havana on an official visit on Sunday, following an invitation by President Raúl Castro, with whom he will hold talks today.
On Monday morning, Colom, accompanied by his wife, Sandra Torres de Colom, placed wreaths by the Monument to Cuba’s National Hero José Martí, located in Havana’s Revolution Square, by the Mausoleum to Immigrants, and by the Pantheon of the Cuban Armed Forces in the Cuban capital’s Colón Cemetery.
Upon his arrival in the archipelago, the Guatemalan President condemned Washington’s blockade against Cuba , describing it as an unjust and anachronistic policy. (Cubaminrex - ACN) |
