New Belizean Students Travel to ELAM in Cuba on Medical Scholarships Belize, February 25, 2009. A batch of 20 belizean students left this afternoon to Cuba to begin their medical studies at the Latin American School of Medicine under full scholarships. Members of the Cuban Diplomatic Mission in Belize and from the Belizean Ministry of Education bid the contingent farewell at Belize City International Airport. This new group joins over 130 belizean students that currently study Medicine in Cuba at the ELAM or through the New Program for Medical Training that Cuba sponsors. Since the Cuban Scholarship Program began, a total of 145 belizean have graduated from Cuban Universities and a total of 194 is currently pursuing University Studies on the Island.
