Book Fair Comes to Western and Central Cuba

CUBA, February 24, 2009. Less than 24 hours before the 18th Cuba International Book Fair opens in the western and central regions of the country, preparations are in place for a literary and artistic program in the same line as that held in the capital where the fair ran from Feb. 12-22.

In far western Pinar del Rio over 200 new titles will be available to the public including those from authors from the province offered by the Cauce and Loynaz publishers

The beginning of the fair in Pinar del Rio takes place during the week of elementary school recess and a children’s pavilion is being readied at the Association of Cuban Artists and Craftspeople. Another special option is the Cuban country ballad sessions at two different locales.

The Book Fair in Pinar del Rio highlights the work of local authors Nelson Simon, Gleivis Coro and Eduardo Martinez Malo, along with the featured writers of the nationwide event, poet Fina Garcia Marruz and historian Jorge Ibarra, as well as the work of Chilean authors with that South American country being the special guest of the 2009 Book Fair.

Meanwhile, in Sancti Spiritus a beautiful initiative takes place tonight, the day before the fair opens in that city. In the Serafin Sanchez Park a book exchange among the population will take place, an idea to facilitate a greater circulation of the different works. (Cubaminrex- Granma)
