CUBA, February 12, 2009. Chilean President Michelle Bachelet will attend Thursday the inauguration of Havana's International Book Fair, this time dedicated to her country. The Chilean delegation to this 18th edition includes over 100 artists, academics, writers and editors, including the Youth Camber Orchestra and Los Tr3s rock band. The program contains tributes to singer-songwriters Violeta Parra and Victor Jara, as well as writers Pablo Neruda and Gabriela Mistral, both winners of the Nobel Literature Prize. Seven exhibitions will be inaugurated parallel to the fair, one of them entitled "A Hug between Two Peoples," with new images of the visits Cuban leader Fidel Castro made to that country in 1971 and 1973. A film season, craft workshops and concerts by folk singers and jazz players complete Chile's proposals. The Cuban book fair had a previous phase with the opening of 46 bookstores and two sub-venues in Havana. The fair, traditionally headquartered at the Morro-Cabana Complex, will close on February 22, and will be then extended to another 16 cities nationwide. (Cubaminrex- PL) |
