Chilean President in Cuba

CUBA, February 10, 2009. Chilean President Michelle Bachelet said she was content to be in Cuba as she disembarked from the airplane that brought her to this capital.

"We are very happy because this is the second time a Chilean president has been here in over 37 years. We hope this visit fosters political dialogue to seek common solutions to world conflicts," the stateswoman told press.

Bachelet expressed gratitude because Chile will be an honorary guest at the 18th Havana Book Fair, starting next weekend.

Michelle Bachelet arrived in Cuba Tuesday night on an invitation by her peer Raul Castro.

Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura welcomed Bachelet at the Jose Marti international airport.

The Chilean head of State came accompanied by an extensive delegation comprised of ministers, senators, deputies, officials, and business people from her country.

This visit will foster ties of friendship and cooperation existing between Cuba and Chile.

The Chilean president's agenda here will include official talks with statesman Raul Castro and attendance at the opening ceremony of 18th International Book Fair.

Also on the list is visiting sites of economic, scientific, cultural and historic interest.(Cubaminrex- PL)
