Belize, February 4, 2009. The Cuban Ambassador to Belize, Manuel Rubido, met for a working session with Dr. Geraldo Flowers, vice-president of the University of Belize. During the talks, topics of mutual interest were discussed including the possibility of receiving Cuban assistance in various fields. Among them was technical assistance in agriculture research for sugar cane and banana production. The Belizean official praised Cuba’s achievements in sports and vowed for assistance in this area. The University of Belize started this year a pilot program for high yield athletes. The Vice-president proposed as well, a student exchange program between the University of Belize and higher education institutions in Cuba. Currently 7 Cuban students have received scholarships from the Belizean University to study English for one year. In the coming days, the Embassy of Cuba in Belize will participate in the traditional Belize University Fair and the Cuban Ambassador to this nation will give a lecture at the event.
