Grenada, Cuba Fostering Ties

CUBA, February 24, 2009.- Grenada's Foreign and Tourism Minister Peter Charles David continues Tuesday his visit to Cuba, fostering bilateral relations, which will turn 30 years soon.

The Caribbean official's agenda included a meeting with his Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, with who held official talks to strengthen alliances.

In the encounter, David stressed the Grenadian support to Cuba and demanded the end of the almost 50-year US economic, trade and financial blockade.

Perez Roque stated that this visit will boost Cuba's relations with the new Grenadian government, and analyze the international situation and its impact in the Caribbean area.

Both countries established diplomatic relations on April 14, 1979, and bilateral collaboration is mainly in the field of education and health.

According to David, the international airport built in Grenada, which will bear the name of the late former Prime Minister Maurice Bishop, is as an expression of that collaboration.

The Caribbean visitor recalled the friendship between Bishop with Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro, to whom sent the best vows from the Grenadian people through Perez Roque.

David finally reiterated the call to end the US blockade on Cuba, which termed a demand of his government and people. (Cubaminrex-PL)
