New Cuban doctors arrived in Suriname


SURINAME, June 23, 2009. Four new Cuban medical specialists arrived in Suriname to work within the framework of the Cooperation Agreement between the Ministries of Public Health of Cuba and Suriname, signed in Paramaribo on August 28, 2007.

Dr. Alexis Oduardo Pérez, specialist in General Integral Medicine will be stationed in Wageningen, Dr. Cesar Eduardo Reyes Calzado, Internist and Dr. Juan Carlos González, Pediatrician will be stationed at the Dr. Lachmipersad Mungra Regional Hospital in Nieuw-Nickerie. Wageningen and Nieuw-Nickerie are in the western part of the country.

Dr. Emelina Yaniz González, epidemiologist, will be stationed at the National Bureau for Public Healthcare (BOG) in the capital city of Paramaribo.

The new doctors replace four other doctors who finished their two year mission in Suriname as members of the Cuban Medical Brigade.
The Medical Brigade further consists of specialists in general medicine, another paediatrician who is also the head of the Brigade, nurses specialized in Extracorporeal dialysis and one medical electronics technician.
Very soon specialists in anaesthesiology and pharmacology will also arrive in Suriname.
