Second Cuban travelling film showcase here next weekend Saint Lucia, March 27, 2009. The Second Travelling Caribbean Film Showcase, which is dedicated to children and adolescents in the Caribbean, is due to begin here next weekend. The showcase is a joint initiative of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Arts and Industry (ICAIC), the UNESCO Regional Cultural Office for Latin America and the Caribbean in Havana, in collaboration with UNESCO Regional offices in Kingston and Port-au-Prince and UNICEF representatives in Cuba. “Films and audiovisual materials are more than just entertainment for our children and youngsters; they are an educational requirement and can contribute substantially to the preservation and defense of ethical and cultural values,” says a release from the organizers. The Showcase “is intended to be a celebration of fantasy, imagination, grace and beauty in which plots reveal educational and informative messages for our children and young people.” “It is also intended to promote mutual understanding and respect for the linguistic and cultural differences between people of the Caribbean,” said a statement from the organizers. Films will be viewed each day as follows: Primary schools from 10 a.m. and Secondary Schools from 12:30 p.m.
