Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, April 24th, 2009. Great impact has had the visit to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines of the Cuban Cricket Team and of the Three Olympic Champion, Teofilo Stevenson, whose father was born in Saint Vincent. Stevenson, the current vice president of the Cuban Boxing Federation, and the Cuban cricket team visited Kingstown from the 15th April to the 30th, 2009. While in the country, they had a very busy schedule, including, the official welcoming dinner, at the Prime Minister residence, offered by the Minister of Social Mobilization and Sport, Mr Mike Browne, at that moment acting Prime Minister. The games played by the Cuban cricket team were covered by the national media, by TV and radio. In a radio interview, Teofilo Stevenson was called from Portugal by the Hon PM Ralph Gonsalves, who wanted to know the development of his visit and the results of the matches between the Cuban cricket team and those from Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. Their conversation was broadcasted live on radio. The newspapers, the Vincentian, The News and the Searchlight covered theirs activities through extensive information and comments. The national TV, the Agency for Public Information broadcasted the matches of the Cuban cricket team, while special interviews were published with members of the Cuban team and with Teofilo Stevenson. |
