Bolivian Deputy FM Condemns US Blockade of Cuba

CUBA, May 25, 2009. Bolivian Deputy Foreign Minister Hugo Fernandez Araoz said on Sunday that the US Government should go from words to action and it should eliminate its economic, financial and trade blockade of Cuba.

According to Prensa Latina news agency, after a visit to Moscow, where he participated in the 4th Meeting of the Mechanism of Political Consultation between his country and Russia, the Bolivian official insisted that Washington should mend a historic mistake that remains in place after almost half a century.

Fernandez Aaroz added that this measure, taken against the Cuban people for their decision to build their own future to preserve their independence, has become a boomerang.

“If the White House does not correct this failed strategy, history will condemn it,” he stressed.

“Part of this policy was also an agreement adopted under US pressure by the Organization of American States (OAS) in the 1960s to expel Cuba from this regional body,” he added.

“Regardless of Cuba’s categorical rejection to return to the OAS, this institution should rectify its historical error,” he concluded.
