Minister of Foreign Affairs of Suriname met with Surinamese students in Cuba

SURINAME, May 6, 2009. Since the establishment of the Surinamese Embassy in Cuba affairs of students go better. Surinamese students said this recently to Minister Lygia Kraag-Keteldijk of Foreign Affairs. The Minister recently visited the island to attend the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating bureau of the NAM.

In November 2008 the preparations started to establish a Surinamese Embassy in Cuba. The decision to establish an Embassy was a result of the working visit the Minister made to Cuba in August last year. During that visit the students emphasized the need for a representation, states a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Presently 54 Surinamese study with a scholarship in Cuban universities and education institutions where they study among other subjects, medicine, sports, telecommunication, chemistry and agriculture.
