US Economic Blockade against Cuba Outdated: Says Argentinean Foreign Minister

New York, October 29, 2009. Argentina´s Foreign Minister Jorge Taiana, said on Thursday that Washington´s economic blockade against Cuba is outdated.

I hope the United States respects the opinion of the international community, said Taiana after 187 UN member nations voted on Wednesday in New York in favour of Cuba´s Resolution demanding and end to the US blockade.

The resolution on the Necessity to End the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba got a record number of UN member nations in favour 187 with 3 votes against and 2 abstentions.

The top Argentinean diplomat recalled that his country voted in favour of the text for four straight years because they believe that the blockade is completely out of context.

He referred to the issue during the inauguration of the Latin America-Caribbean-European Union Forum on Corporative Social Responsibility.

Telam News Agency highlighted that Cuba once again received the overwhelming support of the international community against the US blockade.

The resolution surpassed last year´s vote with 187 which included El Salvador for the first time in favour of ending the economic blockade against the Cuban people. (Cubaminrex- RHC)
