Belize, 22 of September 2009. With various political and cultural activities, the Belizean people have celebrated the 28 Anniversary of Its Independence. The celebrations began on the 10th of September, Anniversary of the Battle of St. Georges Caye which took place over 200 years ago by the first settlers in the country. Receptions and encounters were offered by the Governor General of Belize and its Minister of Foreign Affairs. During the annual briefing of the Diplomatic Corp, attended by the Cuban Ambassador to Belize, Minister Wilfred Erlington highlighted the cooperation received from Cuba in many sectors, fundamentally in health. Cuba has a 118 strong medical team in the Caribbean nation. Closing the celebrations was the central activity on the 21 of September in the nation’s capital with a closing speech by Prime Minister Dean Barrow.
