Ratified solidarity with Cuba in the celebration of July 26 in South Africa SOUTH AFRICA , August 2ND, 2010.- The chapter of the Friends of Cuba Society (FOCUS) in the province of Gauteng and the members of the Cuban Embassy in South Africa, celebrated the 26 July in the municipality of Ekhuruleni in a political-cultural event. On the occasion of the 57 Anniversary of the historic attack to the Moncada Barracks, Hope Papo, Secretary General of FOCUS in Gauteng, reaffirmed the commitment of the South Africans citizens to support Cuba as a way of retribution what Cuba has been given to Africa during the last 50 years. The solidarity leader reiterated the decision of the organization to continue fighting until the release of the Cuban Five. In his speech the Ambassador of Cuba, Angel Villa, focused on the current situation of Gerardo Hernández and recalled the fact that the international solidarity is the most valid way to achieve the freedom of the Five. The diplomat expressed appreciation to FOCUS for the support given to Cuba in the fight against the blockade and other campaigns in favor of the island and requested the South African organization to be present in the regional conference in solidarity with Cuba to be held in Luanda next September. Dr. Steven Peeha, a South African medical doctor recently graduated in Cuba, delivered a vibrant speech commenting on his experience while in Cuba and the role he is playing in his country benefiting the rural communities and inspired by the teachings of Fidel and the Cuban Revolution. The event was attended by a crowd of ANC, the Communist Party and COSATU leaders, Cuban doctors and engineers working in South Africa, as well as members of the Association of Cubans Residents.
