Saint Lucia mark CARICOM-Cuba Day

SAINT LUCIA, December 8th, 2010.- On December 8th, 2010: December 8th, Cubans together with the Caribbean people are celebrating Cuba - CARICOM Day.  This day marks the 38th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cuba and the CARICOM countries; a decision, which at that time defied the isolation policy imposed by the U.S.  Since then, the remaining CARICOM countries opened relations with Havana; giving way to rich bilateral programs in Health Care, Education, Sports, Culture and Agriculture.

To mark this event, the Cuban Embassy in Saint Lucia, in collaboration with the Saint Lucia – Cuba Humanistic Solidarity Association held a Cultural Activity at the Castries City Council Auditorium. 

 Cultural Performances were made: Musical Renditions by students of the Vide Bouteille Primary School; "A Saint Lucian Folk Medley" and the Cuban Song “Guantanamera”. Secondly, the Cuban Collaborators working in Saint Lucia shared a variety of Cuban Dances while The Monchy Theatre Company, performed an excerpt of a Play entitled “Better to Dance than Die”, directed by Travis Weekes; Playwright and Director.  The La Fargue Quadrille Group.; coordinated by Ms. Clara Charlery, also made a demonstration for the public.

The activity was held with the attendance of senior officials of Government related to the work of Cuban partners in Cuba, the City Mayor, members of solidarity, Cuban residents, graduates in Cuba and the public in general. (Cubaminrex-Embacuba Santa Lucia)
