CUBA, Jan 20, 2010. - The Cuban health personnel currently making their contribution in the Haitian capital is prioritizing the vitality of the few hospitals that are still providing medical services in Port-au-Prince after the devastating earthquake that hit this Caribbean nation last week. The number of surgeries required currently exceeds the capacity of response and although the amount of medicines and resources is limited the health professionals intensify their efforts. The Cuban personnel are currently working in the University Hospital, also known as Delmas 33, and at the Ofatma and Rennaissance hospitals, as well as in other facilities near Port-au-Prince. In Delmas 33, the Cuban doctors have been joined by surgeons, nurses and health technicians from other countries such as Venezuela, Spain, Norway, Canada and Argentina, among others. Others contributing to the humanitarian efforts are the Red Cross from Colombia and 10 nuns from Santo Domingo’s Daughters of the Charity of Saint Vincent of Paulin congregation. (Cubaminrex - acn) |
