HAITI, Jan 18, 2010 .- Hundreds of victims of the catastrophic quake that rocked Haiti earlier this week continue to be treated by Cuban doctors and health specialists working in a total of four health areas, in addition to several field hospitals set up on the edge of Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital. Since last Wednesday morning, Cuban health professionals have been performing surgical operations at the University Hospital (here known as Delmas 33), where a team of orthopedic surgeons has been working in three properly equipped operating rooms. This is one of two major hospitals in Port-au-Prince that was activated for emergencies. Apart from the Cuban doctors, health specialists from Chile, Haiti and Spain have also joined this solidarity mission. According to a report sent by Raymundo Gomez, Cuban News Agency’s special correspondent in Port-au-Prince, more than 200 people are also treated every day at nearby treatment centers, also fitted out for this emergency situation, as demand exceeds the services provided. Cuban medical specialists are also working at The Rennaissance and Ofatma Hospitals which are packed out with people waiting to be assisted or undergo surgery. ( Cubaminrex - RHC) |
