Following a meeting with visiting Surinamese Foreign Minister, Cuba’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla said that out of the 403 Cuban workers in Haiti, 344 are part of a medical brigade. He said that only two of the Cubans residing in the Haitian capital received minor injuries from the earthquake. Rodriguez said that Cuban doctors have cared for almost 700 earthquake victims. He said that although communications failed, they have been kept up to date by the Cuban Ambassador in Port of Prince. Rodriguez said that in the wake of the quake, his Ministry has begun coordinating with other Cuban institutions for relief aid to be sent to Haiti, which at this time will consist of emergency medical supplies and more Cuban doctors and nurses. Rodriguez said Cuba is willing to joint CARICOM in any relief effort. (Cubaminrex - RHC)
