Guatemala Awards Cuban Ambassador Highest National Order
CUBA, January 28, 2010. - The government of Guatemala has awarded the country’s highest honor, the Order of the Quetzal to the Cuban ambassador to this Central American nation, Omar Morales, who will soon conclude his period of service there.
The award, granted to the Cuban diplomat by a government decree signed by President Alvaro Colom, was presented to Morales by Guatemala’s Acting Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Ibarra, who said that the Order recognizes the work of Morales in Guatemala and his efforts in the development of cooperation and bilateral ties between Cuba and his country.
He also highlighted his work in the improvement of relations in all sectors since his arrival in Guatemala City in November 2005.
Morales responded by saying that he accepted the award not as a personal recognition but as a tribute to Cuba and to the main promoters of Cuba’s solidarity with Guatemala: the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Raul Castro. (Cubaminrex - RHC) |
